Official Page of GEOMAR on munitions in the sea

Ammunition in the North and Baltic Seas poses safety (shipping, infrastructure development, fishing, beach visitors), security and environmental issues, as well as a scientific challenge:

Several research projects have been executed and are still running in which GEOMAR is participating.

Other projects carried out by national and international partners, either prior to these (e.g. DAIMON I & II) or in parallel (e.g. North Sea Wrecks), have contributed to creating a well-interconnected network of scientists, scientific disciplines, and European partners.

Only through sufficiently founded and well-coordinated science can we give meaningful and correct advice to protect people and the environment while at the same time advance technology and decision-making approaches.

MUNIMAR-Science aims at becoming a hub for distributing knowledge and initiating collaborations. It aims at linking interested parties, highlight knowledge gaps, and initiate or coordinates projects to overcome them. We would like to ensures that knowledge is not only generated, but distributed and used.
